I'll still wait for the reviews to come in (I almost picked up MP Rodimus V1) but most likely I'm grabbing Shocky.

There you go Scotty Ive fixed that for ya!
Joking aside, why have you used some second hand watermarked photos when there are clean versions just further up this thread?
I had more or less convinced myself into giving up on Masterpiece figures but both Hot Rod and Shockwave (I posted pics in both threads btw ) look lovely, so I may just carry on collecting!

Hi Chuck, it looks like the stock may actually be what forms the inner part of the lower legs that makes them thicker. Brilliant design!
This MP is PHENOMENAL! I haven't been this excited for a new Transformer in a LONG time.

Because we were slammed with news to catch up on, I'm at work, had already grabbed the posted images off Twitter, and was flurrying through the post before a meeting started;)robotmel wrote:Joking aside, why have you used some second hand watermarked photos when there are clean versions just further up this thread?
We're volunteer part-timers, so sometimes can be extremely thorough, other times just wanting to get the news out quick! Thanks for being kind-spirited about it though, and definitely be sure to use the Contact Form to shoot that kind of thing over to us, easily the best way to get our attention
My own quick comment (before another meeting!) is that this toy looks really great and I hope it's well put together. Nice pricing on it too, hope HLJ gets it up soon.

That makes sense since the stock in hollow in the back. That really is ingenious.

You guys are so damn smart, this is really ingenius. I was hoping the barrel would also be removable, how are we sure it isn't and simply attached to the back?

No worries bud, I just did a grab from elsewhere on the interweb and posted straight away before any other watermarked images had been fully revealed or posted on Seibertron. Guess I should have gone via the 'news link' but wanted to get them out there asap!
I would assume, if this guy gets KOed, it will be a long while, if at all when he would appear?
The MP Seekers never got done (on the cheap anyway), MP Optimus took almost two years to KO which ended poorly and no MP Soundwave either.
Either the moulds are too difficult to steal/copy or they are just too large to copy and get right?

Overall Shockwave looks fantastic. I could've gone for a shade or two darker purple (more G1 toy accurate and less cartoon accurate) and still feel like he should be a little taller. I'd have to look at the animation scale from G1 to see if Soundwave or Shockwave should be taller, but I feel like he should be taller than Soundwave.

Of course, at this point, we aren't sure. But looking at the photos, it looks like there is a bracket that connects from his back, through his folded arms and to the bottom of the barrel in gun mode.
This is kind of how I imagine it possibly working.

Looks good to me. They're so close together on size I'm not gonna nitpick over it one way or another.

It looks like it's pretty close to the chart. As long as he's close to Soundwave and taller than Starscream. It must be his very tall G1 toy that makes me keep thinking he should be taller than everyone else. Of course, by that logic, he should be as tall as Devastator!

No thanks, as I predicted, you can get this guy for as low as 100$ plus shipping.
Well, to be fair, BBTS just lowered the price of Shockwave to $159.99. (Hot Rod went down too...)

Yes you are.
He looks so good!
Indeed.
I should start saving up now.
Good idea you.
That's me beside myself with excitement for this figure.

In that case then I take it back. Though the fact that they still but him 5$ above quakewave when his full MSRP is supposed to be 140$ (that's 16800 YEN without any discount and this is not an exclusive) is still a bit sketchy.
Look at it this way, MP Soundblaster (MP 13B) is just a tad bit more than Shockwave's MSRP at 17064 YEN which is 142$ US. BUT US online sites such as BBTS sold him for 130$ US (here is proof). That should be close to how much Shockwave costs on BBTS but it isnt. Instead they are charging an extra 30$ premium.
We know that Shockwave is not an exclusive and we have an idea of the usual margins and prices on nonexclusive MP toys sold at online US store (a bit lower than MSRP), but in this case Shockwave is over the MSRP. Thus BBTS and any site selling this toy for more than 140$ US is charging you more than they should and giving you a bigger premium on these non exclusive toys than ever before. By lowering the price, you may deem them fair but they are still charging you more than the established MSRP they are recomended to sell to you (that is beside the fact that at Japan retail he will sell for 20-30% off of that MSRP).
You guys can do as you wish but if we are talking about being fair, that price is objectively still not fair to the consumer based on the market.

It looks like Shockwave retains his light up features as well. This is truly a first amongst the Masterpiece Transformers. Kudos to Takara Tomy for remaining so faithful to the toy and the cartoon's look. Wow.

I hardly remember Shockwave interacting with other bots in the cartoon at all. I'm sure it did... but my memories were of him on Cybertron chatting with the screen to the earth cons.
I first saw Shockwave in the Marvel comics. When he showed up out of the blue kicked EVERYONE's butt then took over the decepticons from Megatron.
I'm pretty sure he was Megatron height in those so that's what I always figured. Megatron height or little taller
This is pretty close. I wouldn't have minded another half inch or so... would love to see how he compares with Appolyon

If I bought him I'd likely print out a background image to make this classic comic cover with it.

Also, hehheheh, Soundwave can play with himself!

Soundwave?

william-james88 wrote:The more I look at it, it is impossible for the barrel to actually be connected to the back without partforming. This is amazing news to me. The backpack appears to be truly optional if you want the cartoon look (which you can get by covering it with the base).
The purple cover is optional, but the barrel is connected by a double hinged purple arm to his back. Like in REX-203's illustration.

Yeah, HLJ's pay later deal is what keeps me going there over the slightly cheaper stores like Anime Export or Ami Ami.

I'd rather not think about what words they have been putting in the dictionary.
