It seems one should never bet against Optimus Prime. While the Transformers community had a good laugh at the $80 1/64 scale Hotwheels collector toy, it seems there were more than enough people out there willing to spend that amount on that small fully die cast Optimus Prime. The transforming G1 styled Hotwheels Optimus Prime sold out in 27 minutes on the Mattel Creations site.
This is encouraging for Mattel as it means their effort and investment in the license was far from in vain. It reveals that there is a market out there for collector items like this and thus they may make more. If they do make more, then this Optimus Prime may rise in value as being the first in an ongoing collection. Of course time will tell if that is the case, but we wanted to let you know of this development in a collaboration that none of us imagined would happen.
Drug smuggling is all about creativity and it looks like Transformers statues were someone's bright idea this time.
700 pounds of ketamine were confiscated by Thailand authorities. These drugs were found in what is said to be lifesize Transformer robot statues. It is unclear if those are the same statues shown in the image, since those are not lifesize, nor could they hold this much product.
We thank John Bailey for letting us know of this cute cameo. In this promo video for the movie IF, we see various animated characters audition to be Imaginary Friends, and Optimus Prime (sporting his ROTB look) is one of them. John Krasinski gets really excited and even makes the transforming sound.
The leader class boxset for the Legacy Star Raiders wave, which is exclusive to Walmart, has yet to be revealed by Hasbro but we do have a video review of it since it is ready for distribution.
The set includes:
- Thundertron, in a deco and headsculpt closer to the original toy
- Calcitron, a redeco of Magnerous to look like blue calcite rock, with a new head
- Nightstrike, a redeco of Siege Skar inspired by the RID2015 character of the same name
These will all be bundled together in a multipack acting as the leader class slot in the line.
From e-bay, we have in hand images of the upcoming deluxe Legacy Lockdown. He will be in Walmart's exclusive Star Raiders subline, which is part of Legacy. While he is much shorter than previous Lockdown toys, the fact that he is based on a Junkion mold means you can make him taller using other Junkion parts, which is somewhat thematic with the character, as designer Mark Maher had said. The images below compare this toy to the ROTF Lockdown toy, which is the reference for the new toy's head.
The Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast is back, with the return of prodigal host ScottyP. He is joined by the usual cast of no-gooders, Mr. Starscream, Aarnhide19, Kuhlio and Megatronus - listen as the crew discusses the latest news, toys, and more. Plus, hardcore Transformers fan reactions to Hasbro's latest livestream reveals! Ok, that part's clickbait. It's really just the regular speculative talk that leads nowhere, especially since many of the upcoming toys are repaints.
Episode #350 “Oops! All Optimus” is available directly and in our RSS Feed, and should appear on Apple Podcasts and many other Podcatcher sites within 24 to 48 hours of when you see this news post.
Here's what we discuss in this episode:
We review the in-hand and spacebridge reveals from the May 14th Pulse Livestream. We give our take on what's hot, what's not, and what we're going to with out Steeljaw armies.
Something unique is driving our way: Mattel Creations 1/64 Optimus Prime. This Hot Wheels figure is die cast, fully transformable, and very, very expensive.
TF One is on our minds - while we mull the movie trailer over, TF One product reveals abound, including some revived toys from product-lines past.
Shizuoka Hobby Show 2024 featured some surprises from Adamas Machina and their AMT line, including a certain Lost Light Rodimus that has our fearless host a-tizzy.
Skybound's Transformers Issue 8 is out and about, and many of your friendly neighborhood Twincasters have some opinions. What happened to Megatron, anyway? To avoid spoilers, steer clear of 1:16:05 - 1:34:15
40 for 40 is back: the year is 2007. Each member of the Twincast explains their favorite Transformers toy from this auspicious year for the brand.
We wrap up the episode as we always do, with a round of bragging rights.

There is currently a rumour within the community based on insider information, detailing that a new animated Transformers show is currently in development. Very little info has been given but the rumour would entail that Earthspark would end after season 2. We do not know if this was always intentional or not, since it could be that the new show is more in line with the TF One film, with Earthspark existing as a show to providing content for the brand before a new era. The initial rumour also gave ratings as a possible reason, which of course can always be the case. As of now, the show ending after season two, or being replaced/cancelled is still a rumour. Our knowledge that a new show is being worked on is coming from someone who is currently working on said show.
We will keep you up to date on further developments. For now, Earthspark still has a whole season coming up for everyone to enjoy, starting June 7th.
Paramount released a trailer for Season 2 of Transformers Earthspark. In it, we can see some of the toys that were previously revealed, like Hashtag's new alt mode being a pickup truck.
We also have a synopsis of each episode, which also explains why Hashtag changed alt mode.
Episode 1:
One year after Mandroid's defeat and the Emberstone's shattering, the Maltos go on a search for the shards. When a Decepticon creates a new foe from a broken shard, the Maltos realize life in Witwicky is about to be chaotic.
Episode 2:
While searching for Emberstone shards, Mo and Thrash stumble upon ancient ruins where a Quintesson Executioner lay in stasis. The duo try to care for the creature, after it follows them home but they fail to realize it has a plan of its own.
Episode 3:
Hashtag helps the Autobots get rid of all the old GHOST stuff around base, which has her feeling like her GHOST van alt-mode is obsolete too. Meanwhile, Shockwave needs to acquire a GHOST hard drive that holds a key to Starscream's master plan.
Episode 4:
Robby, Mo, Twitch, and Thrash attend a carnival where Robby develops a crush on a new student, while Twitch, Thrash, and Mo encounter trouble with the carnival's Fairmaster. As the heroes battle Fairmaestro, they unlock a new power: cyber-syncing.
Episode 5:
Jawbreaker wants to cyber-sync, but he's left out. Walking home, he saves Aftermath from a woodland monster. The two spend the day together and accidentally sync into one awkward bot.
Episode 7:
Twitch and Spitfire accidentally swap bodies; it's hard for both to avoid getting caught behind enemy lines; the Decepticons plan to attack Twitch's friends and allies.
Episode 8:
Optimus lands a prestigious photoshoot, so Robby and Hashtag take his battle worn trailer to get detailed. Unfortunately, the Decepticons steal it from them, leading the kids to race the clock to get it back in one piece.
Episode 9/10:
Mo and Hashtag find a giant secret beneath Witwicky, and Starscream plans to use it for evil. To do so, Starscream needs to rebuild the shattered Emberstone. Robby rallies his family and the Autobots to stop him, and end the chaos once and for all.
